In accordance with the monitoring and reporting requirements of the Q

subject order, please find attached a summary of the Water Quality

.c' Monitoring Program at the Rancho Seco Facility for October, 1985.

Additional comments are as follows:

1.

Rancho Seco was shutdown on October 2, due to Feedwater Pump 4

Control problems.

2.

Maximum waste water flow rate was 10,000 gpm for 15 hours1.736111e-4 days <br />0.00417 hours <br />2.480159e-5 weeks <br />5.7075e-6 months <br /> on October 9.

3.

Waste water d'scharges amounted to 234.7 M gallons.

4.

Maximum dissolved solids in waste water discharge was 7,182 lbs.

pcr day, which occurred during a retention basin release on October 19.

Flow through the sewage plant averaged 11,267 gpd for the month of October, which is an overload of plant design.

6.

High Settleable and Suspended Matter in sewage plant' effluent can be attributed to flow in excess of design.

High Total Coliform in sewage plant effluent can be attributed to lack of contact time. At the time of sampling the free C1 was 1.0 2

ppm.

7.

The high oil and grease in plant effluent on October 29 is 3-believed to be nonrepresentative of the plant effluent.

A sample of the plant effluent was taken during the release of the North Retention Basin because the basin oil and grease was out of specification at'73.8 ppm.

The release was started at a 10 to 1 dilution.

The sample of the plant effluent indicated oil and grease of 118 ppm.

The release was secured at that time.

Two more samples were taken of the plant effluent before the release was restarted on October 30.

The results were 15.6 and 1.0 ppm. Another sample was taken of the plant effluent.during the restarted release and was 0.1 ppm oil and grease.

The technician

indicated there did not appear to be anything unusual with the sampling or analy. sis.

There were no reports on any oil spills during this time period.

Mechanical Maintenance checked the operation of the Oily Water Separator and has reported that it is operating properly.

Several visual inspections of the downstream area have not indicated any evidence of oil and grease.

8.

Chromium and Zinc for the month of October were both <0.01 mg/t.

9.

We are still in the process of implementing the requirements of the new permit. The final procedure revisions are expected to be ap,' roved within two weeks.
