LASALLE COUNTY NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION

• W.P.D.E.S. PERMIT NO: ILOO4 Bib 1 f NONCOMPLIANCE REPORT DISCHARGE NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION: 001(c) Wastewater Treatment System Effluent PARAMETER AND PERMIT LIMIT: Oil and Grease 20 ppa daily maximum NCWCOMPLIANCE. DATE. AND DURATION:

32 ppm Oil and Grease. 150CT85 Unknown.

CAUSE OF NONCOMPLIANCE:

A large volume of oil entered the Wastewater Treatment System and overloaded it. The source of oil and grease is unknown.

The separator trough between the inlet and outlet bays of the Wastewater oil separator is full of sludge, as are the oil separator tube bundles.

An oil boom had been placed in the Wastewater Treatment Effluent compartment. This boom had been trapping a sheen of oil in the vicinity where Oil and Grease sa:oples are obtained.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

Action Item Record 373-200-85-18001 has been written to track replacement of the Oil Separator tube bundles. New tube bundles will be installed within one week of their arrival on-site. The oil separator trough will also be cleaned at that time.

The Effluent Compartment oil boom has been removed and will not be reinstalled. Oil booms in the clearwell will continue to be inspected and changed out as necessary.

An Action Item Record has been written to identify the source of the oil and establish corrective action for the problem.
