SUBJECT:
MEETING WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY REGARDING ACTINIDE ONLY BURNUP CREDIT On February 28, 1997, a public meeting was held between representatives of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's burnup credit task force the Department of Energy (DOE). and its contractor, to discuss DOE's " Topical Report on Actinide Only Burnup Credit for PWR Spent Nuclear Fuel Packages." Attachment 1 is a list of attendees. is a copy of the meeting handout, which includes an agenda.
A notice of public meeting was issued on February 14. 1997.
The DOE is currently responding to NRC's request for additional information (RAI) on the topical report, dated March 22. 1996.
DOE discussed a alanned delay in submission of formal responses to the RAI. which will be su)mitted in April 1997, instead of March 1997.
During the meeting. DOE staff and contractors made presentations on the planned revisions to the topical's isotopic validation and cask modeling chapters.
This meeting supplemented a January 23, 1997. meeting on the criticality validation, reactor records, and burnup measurements chapters of the topical report. A meeting summary of the 3revious meeting was issued on February 10. 1997.
No further meetings are scleduled prior to submission of DOE's response to the RAI.
