6 For your information, enclosed is an affidavit concerning a main bearing failure which occurred on a Transamerica Delaval, Inc. standby diesel generator at the Catawba Nuclear Station, Unit 2.
The problem was the subject of NRC Board No-tification No.85-092, issued December 12, 1985.

~ Messrs. Rosenthal, Johnson & Wilber January 8, 1986 Page Two Although the cause of the occurrence is still under inves-tigation, the Board Notification states that the problem is be-lieved to be unique to the particular diesel generator which experienced the failures.
The enclosed Affidavit of Edward C.
Christiansen, a Senior Design Engineer at Perry, supports this conclusion and provides information on the steps which have been taken to preclude a similar problem with the Perry diesel generators.
