1 Q Now, do you know what damage or perhaps destruction to the ermocouples or thermocouple assemblies occurred during the acciden ?

A believe they were melted down along with the other structural sth f in that area.

Q Do you oday know at what temperatures thermocouples melt?

A Within a few egrees.

Q Okay. What is at temperature?

A Right around 2500.

Q. Was there any discussi n about the thermocouple readings with anyone else other than Mr. Mi er?

{ A I don't--I don't recall. We went on to something else.

Q Do you recall if Mr. Ro~gers was in the office at the time you reported these readings to Mr. Mil r?

A I believe he was, mostly because I do 't believe he was out of the office much.

Q Was there anyone else in the shift supervis r's offica at the time you repored these temperatures to Mr. Miller A I don't recall.

Q Mr. Ross?

A He may have been.

Q Anybody else you can remember?

A Nn_

Q Going back to March 28th, isn't it true that you believed

( on that date or you had the opinion on that date the temperatures around 2300 degrees Fahrenheit would, in fact, destroy or severely. damage the thermocouples?

A I don't believe it was. I don't recall having an opinion.

Q Have you--haven't you so testified at another deposition or interview to that fact? ,

A I looked all this stuff up later. I didn't--I don't think I even looked at the thermecouple table the day of the accident.

Q If you'll bear with me for one minute. What I'm asking you, again, is about March 28th, whether or not you held that belief on March 28th.

,. A I don't recall.

MS. BERNABEI: Can we have a few minutes to break while I find--

MR. BLAKE: Do you think it will be okay with our schedule?

MS. BERNABEI: I dpn't think we'll have any problems.

(Whereupon, a brief recess was taken.)

BY MS. BERNABEI:

Q Mr. Porter, my question, I believe, before we took a break was if you knew on March 28th that the thermocouples would be destroyed'somewhere in the range of 2500 degrees Fahrenheit.

A I don't know if I--I don't believe that I knew that specifically that day, no. I looked all that stuff up later.

( k_

What I'm asking you is, did you have an idea that c(

4 Q

that was true--whether or not you know specifically the temperature at which thermocouples would be destroyed?

A I know that these weren't exotic thermocouples designed for high temperature operation.

Q Let me ask the question a different way. Regardless of whether the temperature was 2000 degrees,2200 degrees, 2500 degrees, did you know that at high temperatures of that sort it would take high temperatures of that sort to destroy those thermo-couples?

A The thermocouple itself, yes.

Q Othcr than "r. Miller, you r't rerceber anyon= alea e

to'whom x you reported the first set of digital voltmeter readingsi

{k, is that orrect?

A I n't recall, no.

Q Do you call briefing or speaking about these temperatures to anyone from Parsipp  ?

A Not on March 28th, no.

Q Do you remember Mr. Mo e, Mr.--

A I don't recall either of th being at the site that day.

Q Do you recall briefing them either b telephone or by any other method?

A' No.

Q Did you brief or--did you brief or otherwise inform anybody elae other than "r. Miller bcut your feelinge ebeut the .
