I am responding to your letter dated February 10, 1997, to Chairman Shirley A. Jackson, that provided a copy of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) draft Request for Proposal (RFP) for commercial spent nuclear fuel acceptance, transportation, and delivery services.
Because of NRC's statutory j
and regulatory role in the licensing and certification of storage and transportation activities, it would be inappropriate for us to comment on the RFP.
We will, however, continue to monitor DOE's progress in this area.
