Plans will be developed to increcae surveillance during these pre-designa-f tad periods whteh will probably involve five to ten additional personnel for short periods of tiisc. The routine surveillance program must, however, allow for protective action to be taken in the event of a significant un-planned release. C1cee coordlnation must be maintained with NFC in order to permit increased f requency of sampling within the establishcd plan. Smith TMI St!BJEcri Modifications to TMI Sampling Frequency Concentrations of fission product radionuclides have been below detection limits at all network statiens for six days (05/01 to 05/07). Unless se-tivities at TMI would indicate otherwise, samples f rom all stations will be collected only three times per week ef fective 05/08/79. The collection schedule will bet Monday Wednesday. Friday -- Stations t 003; 004; 005; 009; 010; 011; 013; 014; 035; and 036. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday - Stations: 001; 016; 017; 020; 021; 023; 031; and 034 Noble gas sampling will be discontinued ef fective 05/10/79. The analytical apparatus and liquid scintillation counter will be stored at the Third and Reilly Lab. Two noble gas samplers will be retained at TMI; the other two j will be returned to Las Vegas. 4 Milk sample collection will follow tne same schedule as the air samples for the present. A meeting vill be held Thursday or Friday, 5/11 or 5/12, with the DER of Pennsylvania, HEW, EPA, and NRC if available to attempt to define the roles of the respective agencies in regard to sampling, particularly mi1W sampling. 1.inited resulta on side by side air sampling using the old and new (01 I ef-3 ficient) charcoal cartridges suggest no dif f erence in I collection ef ficiency under present ccaditions. Because of the higher cost (alacat a f actor of two) of the never cartridges, we vill revert to use of the old type.
