LASALLE COUNTY NUCLEAR CENERATING STATION N.P.D.E.S. PERMIT NO: IL0048151 NONOOMPLIANCE REPORT DISCHARGE NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION: 001, cooling Pond Blowdown i

PARAMETER AND PERMIT LIMIT:

Total Iron, 4.0 ppe daily maximum Total Iron,~2.0 ppe 30-day average r NONCOMPLIANCE. DATE, AND DURATION:

4.1 ppe Total Iron, 12 Nov 85, unknown 3.3 ppe Total Iron, 30 Nov 85, 30-day average i

CAUSE OF NONCOMPLIANCE:

LaSalle County station had previously petitioned for a modification to its NPDES permit to delete cooling pond blowdown total iron limits. This request was based on correlation of rainfall to cooling pond blowdown total iron concentration. Rising cooling pond makeup and blowdown total ,

iron concentrations seem to parallel rainfall. The LaSalle County area experienced heavy rainfall for the majority of the month of November, thus total iron concentrations rose.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

None taken.
