ORDER In view of the variety of issues raised by the accident at the Three Mile Island Unit No. 2 facility, the Ccamission presently lacks the requisite reasonable assurance that the same licensee's Three Mile Island Unit No. 1 facility, a nuclear power reactor of'similar design, can be operated safeay without endangerine the health and safety of the public.

Accordingly, we direct that the Unit No. 1 facility, presently in a i

shutdown condition, shall remain shut down until further order of the Commission itself.

The Commission will~aheptay also issue an Order specifying in detail the basis for its

. concerns, and the crocedures to govern further proceedings in this matter.

Within twenty (20) days of that further Crder, the licensee or any person whose interest may be affected by these-GP4ePe this Order may request a hearing with' respect to these-GPsere this Order.

and interest require tha: this Order be effective immediately.

Any request for a hearing shall not stay the imrediate effectiveness of this Order.

If such a request for a hearing is submitted and is granted, the plant shall not restart until the hearing is completed.

ORDER In view of the variety of issues raised by the accident at the Three Mile Island Unit No. 2 facility, the Commission presently lacks the requisite reasonable assura=ce that the sane licensee's Three Mile Island Unit No. 1 facility, a nuclear power reactor of similar desi5n, can be operated without endangering the health and safety of the public.

Accordingly, we direct that the Unit No. 1 facility, presently in a shutdown conditics, shall remain shut down unwil further order of the Com 4ssion itself.

The Cc= mission has further determined that it is in the public interest that a hearing precede restart of the facility.

The Oc =ission will also issue an Order specifying in detail the basis for its concerns, and the procedures to govern further proceedings in this matter.

The licensee may file a written answer to this Order no later than twenty (20) days after the issuance of the detailed Order.

The Conmission has found that the public health, safety and interest require that this Order be effective immediately.
