- Part-time Introduction A ceeting was held at Silver Spring, ftaryland, on September 5,1985, to discuss the canisters for use in the Model No.125-B. There are no outstanding issues on the fuel canister. The meeting focused on the analyses and testing of the filter and knock-out canisters.

Discussion The applicant has performd sone static load tests on the filters which are installed in the filter canister and revised the criticality analysis for the filter canisters. The revised criticality analysis took into account the following:
1.
Fuel particles optirunly coderated 2.
Spacing caused by the endcaps (filters) overlapping 3.
Filter screens in place 4.
Poison tubes against canister wall 5.
As-built B C density and contents 4
The calculated k is about 0 (Additional calculations wilNe necessary.88 with the above assunptions.
to show interaction between filter canisters is also subcritical.) Pending a reytew of the documentation to support the filter canister in detail, it is expected to provide for the subcriticality of its contents.
A knock-out canister will be drop tested to detemine its ability to raintain the subcriticality of its contents. The applicant proposed a full scale test with siculated contents of lead shot and water. Three or four 30-foot drop tests will be perforned on one or two canisters which will address bending as well as torsion of the poison rods. The canister would be pressurized (30 psig) prior to the drop and contained within a S/8-inch steel pipe. The apolicant will establish an acceptance criteria taking into account the criticality analysis assumptions.
A corplete response to our August 9,1985, letter, including information on the canisters, is expected about nid-October 1985.
