Dear Sir:
This report is being submitted pursuant to Byron Technical Specification 3.3.3.4 to document the inoperability of three meteorologicalinstrumentation channels l
listed in Table 3.3-8 for a period exceeding the allowed 7 days.
At 0030 on 8-13-85 the 30' and 250' Wind Direction recorders and the 30' Air Temperature recorder in the main Control Room were reported inoperable. These recorders were not reported back in service until 1900 on 8-20-85. The cause of the malfunction was damaged fuses in the communication line between the meteorological tower and the Control Room. These fuses were damaged by a severe lightning storm.
The damaged fuses were replaced and the recorders were recalibrated prior to declaring the instrumentation operable.
It should be noted that instrumentation at the tower was never inoperable; only the Control Room instrumentation was affected by the damaged communication link.
This report was prepared by J. Cook from information supplied by Brent Scott.
