Dear Sir:

Subject:

Vermont Yankee Scram System Design - Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) Support Modification Installation Schedule In our letter of February 1, 1985 [ Reference b)], we indicated our schedule for completing the remaining modification to our insert and withdrawal line pipe supports by the end of our 1985/86 outage. As indicated in Reference c),

Vermont Yankee was evaluating all drywell related work in terms of its potential impact on the 1985/86 outage schedule.

We have concluded that we will not be able to have this installation complete prior to, or during the recirculation pipe replacement outage scheduled to commence on September 21, 1985. Although the design for the modification is completed, the installation would directly interfere with the laydown/ staging effort of the recirculation pipe replacement effort and, therefore, we intend delaying the non-critical HCU modification work. Because the insert / withdrawal line modifications can be performed during normal plant operation, we propose to defer that work until after the completion of the pipe replacement effort. Work will commence at that point and be completed within 5 months following return to normal power operation.

This work item is the only additional work item requiring deferral iden-tified as our detailed outage planning has progressed (refer to Reference c)].

Accordingly, we request your concurrence for this deferral.

Should you have any questions or require additional information in this matter, please contact us.

Very truly yours, VERM T YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER CORPORATION 8509170174 850912 Yf PDR ADOCK 05000271 M-WarrenP[ Murphy PDR Vice President and
