SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-483/97-04
Dear Mr. Schnell:
An NRC inspection was conducted January 27-31,1997, at your Callaway Plant reactor
facility. A followup telephone conversation was held on February 7,1997, between
Mr. M. Reidmeyer of your staff, and Mr. L. Ricketson of this office to discuss changes
made to your offsite dose calculation manual. The enclosed report presents the scope and
results of that inspection.
Overall, the programs involved with radiation protection personnel training, management
oversight of radiation protection activities, and maintaining radiation exposures as low as is
reasonably achievable were properly implemented.
One unresolved item was identified concerning changes made to the offsite dose
calculation manual. This matter is discussed in Section 8.1 of the enclosed inspection
report. The issue of whether changes to your offsite dose calculation manual were
conducted in accordance with the requirements of Technical Specification 6.14 will remain
unresolved pending a review of the changes and your justification for the changes by the
Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
