SUMMARY

OF NOVEMBER 6, 1996, MEETING WITH COMBUSTION ENGINEERING OWNERS GROUP REACTOR VESSEL WORKING GROUP j l

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff met with representatives of the Combustion Engineering Owners Group (CE0G) Reactor Vessel Working Group (RVWG) on November 6, 1996, at the ABB-Combustion Engineering offices in Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the status of the RVWG program on reactor pressure vessel (RPV) weld properties. The meeting attendees are listed in attachment 1.

In Generic Letter (GL) 92-01, " Reactor Vessel Structural Integrity,"

Revision 1, Supplement 1, the NRC requested that licensees search for and  !

provide any new data pertinent to the structural integrity of their RPV. As a I result of this GL, the CE0G RVWG initiated a program to determine the best-estimate copper and nickel content in Combustion Engineering-fabricated vessel welds. This program is scheduled to be completed by December 31, 1996. j During the meeting, the CE0G RVWG described the database that was used in the program, the evaluation process and methodology, and provided examples of data analysis. Attachment 2 contains the information presented by the CE0G RVWG.

The NRC staff discussed the process for reviewing data submitted by licensees  !

, and the policy for charging review fees. The CEOG RVWG indicated that it was  !
