-1 RETRACTION OF A 50.72 FOUR HOUR REPORT 5
FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE NPF-57 HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION DOCKET NO. 50-354 On October 18, 1996, Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) made a four hour report pursuant to the provisions of 10CFR50.72 (b) (2) (iii).
The report documented a concern about the capability of the Standby Liquid Control (SLC) System to perform its safety function when the system is operated at elevated temperatures during chemical additions.
Specifically, net positive suction head (NPSH) calculations at these elevated temperatures were not available to ensure that the NPSH requirements for these pumps were satisfied.
On November 14, 1996, Engineering had completed NPSH analyses fcr the SLC pumps and concluded that NPSH requirements could be satisfied at the maximum temperature rating of the SLC storage tank heater (150 degrees F).
The SLC pump NPSH requirements could be satisfied for all postulated storage tank temperatures (including elevated temperatures during chemical additions).
Since the safety function of SLC could be fulfilled, the associated four hour report was retracted on November 15, 1996.
