A large input of oil overloaded the Wastewater Treatment System. The polymer system was suspected to be ineffective since the polymers had exceeded the recommended shelf life. The weir system on the oil separator was suspected to be malfunctioning. The exact source of the oil is still unknown.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

The Wastewater Treatment Facility was isolated to prevent discharge into the cooling pond. The equalization tank mixer was taken out of service.

The filter material in media filter "A" was replaced. The oil was pumped out of the equalization tank, clarifiers, clearwell, and e##1uent compartment. Oil absorbent booms in the clearwell and effluent chamber were replaced. The polymer system was restored to proper operating condition. The vendor for the oil separator was contacted and advised irispection of the oil separator trough. The inspection is in progress and work is being done under work request L50669.
