LASALLE COUNTY NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION i N.P.D.E.S. PERMIT NO: ILOO48151 NONCOMPLIANCE REPORT DISCHARGE NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION: 001(a) Regenerative Wastes Solution Discharge Tank' PARAMETER AND PERMIT LIMIT: Total Suspended Solids, 15 ppm 30-day average NONCOMPLIANCE, DATE, AND DURATIbN:

45 ppm Total Suspended Solids 30-day average, OlJUL85, month of June CAUSE OF NONCOMPLIANCE:

The 30-day average limit was exceeded because of one discharge which contained 80 ppm total suspended solids. (A noncompliance report on this occurrence was submitted 06JUN85).

It is suspected that the high total suspended solids concentration was due to solids accumulation in the tank.

A sample collected prior to discharge indicated the tank met NPDES discharge limits. It is suspected that the sample was nonrepresentative due to inadequate mixing as a result of low flow through the transfer pumps.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

The OWM03T Regenerative Wastes Solution Discharge Tank was drained and inspected. Since it was observed that solids had accumulated in the bottom of the tank, the tank was cleaned. The OWM12T Regenerative Wastes Solution Discharge Tank was also drained and inspected. Since solids had also accumulated in this tank, it is being cleaned.

The cause of low flow through the transfer pumps is still being investigated.
