EXTENSION OF THE PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD FOR THE PROPOSED GENERIC LETTER; DEGRADATION OF STEAM GENERATOR INTERNALS

Dear Mr. Modeen:

By letter dated January 27, 1997, the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) requested an extension of the public comment period for the )roposed generic letter,

. " Degradation of Steam Generator Internals," publisled December 31, 1996, in Volume 61, No. 252, Pages 69116-69118 of the federal Register. The comment

period was originally scheduled to expire on January 30, 1997. NEI requested

the comme'it period be extended until March 15, 1997. The extension would enable NEI to coordinate input from the industry, assemble an integrated set of industry comments, and transmit them to the NRC for consideration. In response to your request, the NRC staff decided to extend the comment period to March 15, 1997.
