i The purpose of this letter is to provide the initial 60-day response to NRC Generic Letter 96-05 for the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant.
Praide Island Nuclear Generating Plant plans to meet the intent of Generic Letter 96-05, Penodic Vedfication of Design-Basis Capability of Safety-Related Motor-Operated Valves. We are a member of the Westinghouse Owners Group (WOG) which has established a group tasked to develop a generic program for this generic letter for the WOG. In addition the WOG is working with the Boiling Water Reactor Owners Group to establish a joint generic periodic verification program. We willbe submitting the details of ourplant specific program within 180 days from the date of the generic letter.
We will be continuing our existing Generic Letter 89-10 Penodic Vedfication program until the Unit 1 1997 fall outage at which time the mvised program described in the 180 day response willgo into effect.
In this letter, the italicized statements above represent new NRC commitments.
