Seven short term (ST) contractors tested positive for dmgs or alcohol during a pre-access dmg/ alcohol screen. The contractors were not allowed unescorted access and were provided an opportunity to appeal through the Wisconsin Electric appeal process. There were no appeals and unescorted access was denied for 12 months pending results of a drug / alcohol assessment should the individuals reapply for unescorted access at a later date. The increased positive rate during pre-access testing was particularly due to a major steam generator replacement project taking place which required screening several hundreds of craft workers who were not familiar with being screened for working in a nuclear environment.

In October, a full can of beer was located in a vehide during a pre-access vehicle delivery search. The vehicle was not loaded by the driver who delivers vending foods. It was suspected that the vehicle had been used during the weekend for catering services that included the delivery of alcohol. The alcohol was confiscated and there was no indication the driver with unescorted access had consumed alcohol. There was no for-cause testing i
