Enclosed for the information of the Subcommittee is a copy of a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to be published in the Federal Reaister in the near future.

standards for protection against radiation.

In addition, a minor policy change i

is proposed which would revise the monitoring criterion for minors and declared j

pregnant women from 50 millires to 100 millirem.

Revising the monitoring 1

criterion would not, in any way, raise the dose limit for declared pregnant women f

and minors. Licensees would still be required to ensure that the dose limit of 0.5 rem (5 mSv) for minors is not exceeded in a year and that the dose limit of i

0.5 rem (5 mSv) for declared pregnant women is not exceeded during the period of l

'their pregnancy.

These changes will not have any adverse impact on the health and safety of workers or the public and are not expected to impose any significant burden on licensees.
