l Re:
Grand Jury Investigation of Industrial Gases
Dear Mr. Kowal:
I This responds to your request by letter dated January 8, 1979 for certain information regarding the Nuclear Regulatory Cettission's (NRC) purchases of industrial gases-oxygen, nitrogen, argon and acetylene.
As Pat Dixon of the General Counsel's office indicated previously in a telephone conversation with Mark Prosperi of your office, we have established through consultation with the NRC's Division of Contracts that the NRC has not been a sutstantial purchaser of these gases; therefore, we cannot render assistance in providing the requested information.
We suggest, however, that you contact the Department of Energy (the successor to the Energy Research and Development Administratior' which has research and development responsibilities in contrast to NRC's licensing and regulatory function.
If you have any questions, please contact Pat Dixon at (202) 634-1465 Sincerely, J
