NRC RADIATION PROTECTION INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-341/96011

Dear Mr. Gipson:

On October 11,1996, the NRC completed an inspection at your Enrico Fermi, Unit 2
i
facility. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.
Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report. Within these areas, the
inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures and representative records,
'
observations of activities, and interviews with personnel.
Overall, the implementation of radiological controls for the RF05 was effective in
maintaining a reasonable collective dose for the work accomp?ished.- However, the pre-
planning for the control rod position indicating probe modification task significantly
underestimated the work scope and the dose expenditure for the scaffolding and cable
installation phases. In addition, the NRC identified evidence of eating and drinking in the
Radiologically Restricted Area. This independent observation was a confirmation of two
occurrences that your staff had previously identified. No violations of NRC requirements
or open items were identified.

and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
