NRC, INSPECTION REPORT 70-1257/96-04 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION

Dear Mr. Femreito:

An NRC inspection was conducted October 21-25,1996, at your Siemens Power Corporation facility. The enclosed report presents the scope end results of that inspection. l During the inspection, your conduct of activities at the Sieraens f acility was generally characterized by implementatica of effective programs in the areas of emergency preparedness and fire protection. However, one violation was identified involving the failure to perform semiannual calibrations of direct-reading pocket dosimeters that may be used in the event of an emergency.

l This violation is cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation (Notice) and the circumstances surrounding thi violation are described in detailin the enclosed report. The NRC has concluded that information regarding the reason for the violation, the corrective actions j taken and planned to correct the violation and prevent recurrence is already adequately I addressed in the subject inspection report. Therefore, you are not required to respond to this letter unless the description therein does not accurately reflect your corrective actions )

or your position. In that case, or if you choose to provide additional information, you should follow the instructions specified in the enclosed Notice.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter, its enclosure (s), and your response will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
