Farley Nuclear Plant - Unit 2 Elevated Tube Sheet I neer Welded Sleeve Technical Snecification Amendment Ladies and Gentlemen: As a result of an NRC Staff request, Southern Nuclear forwarded by letter dated November 11, 1996, Westinghouse letter NSD-JLH-6384 dated November 8,1996 concerning the qualification testing of the lowerjoint for the elevated sleeve. A non-proprietary version of that letter, NSD- - JLH-6385, was included with the Southern Nuclear letter. An error has been identified in the Westinghouse letter. In the last paragraph on page 3 of the ] letter, the first sentence should conclude, "..., will be lower than in a rolled tube." instead of "..., will be higher than in a rolled tube." Consequently, the entire paragraph should read: 1 Everything else being equal, it is expected that the integrity of thejoint installed in a WEXTEX tube, the subject of this task, will be lower than in a rolled tube. Therefore, the performance of the joint made in the WEXTEX tube is expected to bound the performance of the samejoint made in a rolled tube and the roll last, undegraded, factory rolled tube configuration was not scheduled for testing. (The "same" joint is defined as the joint made using the same roll expander, torque, roller rpm, roll pass sequence, effective length. es well as tube, tubesheet and sleeve material and strength parameters.)
