Dear Mr. Reedy:
Thank you for your letter of January'a, 1997, regarding t'he use of AEME codes and standards in the nuclear industry.
As Mr. William Hill of my staff informed you by telephone, the Commission appreciates your comments and suggestions, but was unable to accommodate your request to participate as a speaker at its January 22, 1997 Briefing on Codes and Standards.
At the Commission's request, however, I have forwarded your letter to the NRC staff for review and evaluation of ycur suggestion that the NRC establish an advisory committee and a special appeal process to consider issues associated with NRC application of ASME codes and standards in its regulatory program.
In view of your interest in this subject, I have enclosed a copy of the transcript of the January 22 meeting for your information.
i I also want to assure you that the NRC will carefully consider your comments.
Sincerely, J
C. Ho le ecretary of the Commission
