Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 2 (TMI-2)

Possession Only License No. DPR-73 Docket No. 50-320 PDMS Quarterly Report The purpose of this letter is to provide the NRC a summary of the activities at TMI-2 during the 4th quarter of 1996.

During the 4th quarter of 1996, GPU Nuclear completed the quarterly surveillance of the TMI-2 Reactor Building on December 18,1996. No adverse trends of radiological conditions were identified during the inspection. The next inspection of the TMI-2 Reactor Building has been scheduled for June 1997.

The Reactor Vessel temperature monitoring system reported the Reactor Vessel temperatures ranged from 73.6"F on October 1 to 47.7* F on December 28,1996. The Reactor Building temperature i

ranged from 72.2" F on October 1 to 46.3" F on December 29, 1996. The largest tem;rrature difference between the P actor Building and the Reactor Vessel occurred on November 21, 1996, when the Reactor Build', temperature was 2.2"F less than the Reactor Vessel temperature.

Significant work activities conducted during the 4th quarter of 1996 included routine and preventative imintenance of plant equipnent and minor repairs to the electrical distribution systent Disimntienent of non-radiological equipnent continued with the dismantlenrnt and removal of several feedwater heaters and other miscellaneous equipment from the Turbine Building.
