Dear Ms. Carruth:

This is in response to your October 31,1996 letter to me and confirms telephone conversations between Ms. K. Collins of your staff and Mr. C. Gordon, State Agreements Officer, NRC Region I, regarding plans to meet with your staff to discuss the current status of the New York City Bureau of Radiological Health materials program.

As discusted between Mr. Gordon and Ms. Collins, to minimize the burden on our staffs, we believe tu following areas can be covered by NRC representatives in a meeting at the Department's effices in approximately one-half day:

1.

Program budget (current status and future commitment);

2.

Bureau Director vacancy (interim coverage and plans to fill);

3.

Status of materials program staffing:

4.

Status of licensing and inspection program; and 5.

Discussion of issues associated with Columbia University.

I understand that the dates of December 4 or 5,1996 have been identified as two tentative dates acceptable to you and your staff. We look forward to hearing from you, or your staff, to confirm the meeting on one of these days.
