OVERDUE SHIPMENT OF LOW ENRICHED URANIUM SAMPLES On Monday, August 26, 1985, Combustion Engineering Inc. (CE), reported to Region I that a shipment of 8 sample vials containing 99 grams of uranium (4 grams U-235) was overdue at CE's Hematite, Missouri plant. The samples were mailed (Certified Return Receipt Requested) from Windsor, Connecticut to Hematite on July 23, 1985.
The licensee has conducted an investigation, has filed a mail loss report with the Windsor, Connecticut post office, and is awaiting a response from post office claims personnel.
The State of Connecticut has been notified.
