Reviewing Strategic Re
,e9sdent documentation, I could not find discussion of the Office of Investigations 01). It may be that 01 is broadly addressed under " Enhancing Regulatory Excellence "
I recommend that the function, organization and products of 01 receive a review as part of the Strategic Reassessment.
Direction setting questions such as: the optimal organization of 01 (Headquarters, based versus Regional-based), central focus of investigations (safety versus " wrongdoing"),
format of investigation reports, distribution and availability of investigation reports, the need for transcribed interviews, level of review for reports, appropriate job classification of investigators performing non-criminal investigations (no arrest powers or weapons requirements), report timeliness requirements, etc. could easily be developed.
Investigations are important; the Commission should determine if 01 is meeting the needs of the NRC as part of the Strategic Reassessment.
