Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Docket No. 50-416 License No. NPF-29 Required 30 Day Response To NRC Generic Letter 96-06 l
GNRO-9 6/ 00122 Gentlemen:
NRC Generic Letter 96-06 requires each addressee to j
submit a written response on or before October 30, 1996 indicating (1) whether or not the requested actions will be completed, (2) whether or not the requested information will be submitted and (3) whether or not the requested information will be submitted within the requested time period.
The purpose of this letter is to inform you that Grand Gulf Nuclear Station will determine if containment air cooler cooling water systems are susceptible to either waterhammer or two-phase flow conditions during postulated accident conditions; and if piping systems that penetrate the containment are susceptible to thermal expansion of fluid so that overpressurization of piping could occur.
If any systems are found to be susceptible h
to any of these conditions, Grand Gulf Nuclear Station j (3')
f will assess the operability of affected systems and take 9611050005 961029 PDR ADOCK 05000416:

i corrective action as appropriate in accordance with the requirements stated in 10 CFR Part 50 Appendix B and as required by the plant Technical Specifications.
In addition, on or before January 28, 1997, Grand Gulf l
Nuclear Station will submit a written summary report stating actions taken in response to the requested actions, conclusions that were reached relative to l
susceptibility of waterhammer and two-phase flow in the containment air cooler cooling water system and l
overpressurization of piping that penetrates containment, j
the basis for continued operability of affected systems j
and components as applicable, and corrective actions that j
were implemented or are planned to be implemented.
If systems are found to be susceptible to the conditions l
described in GL 96-06, Grand Gulf Nuclear Station will l
identify the affected systems and describe the specific l
circumstances involved.
