Gentlemen:
ULNRC-34 8 3 DOCKET NUMBER 50-483 CALIAWAY PLANT INITIAL RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 96-06
Reference:
- 1) NRC Generic Letter 96-06, dated September 30, 1996 The reference involves NRC concerns with I
equipment operability and containment integrity during design-basis accident conditions and requested licensees to provide two responses:
one within 30 days, and another within 120 days.
The 30-day response is to indicate whether the requestr:d actions will be undertaken and whether the requestad information will be available to the NRC within the 120-day response period.
UE is currently evaluating applicability of the GL issues to Callaway Pler.c and intends to address such issues as requested within the 120-day response i
period.
We have initiated a joint effort with Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation to complete this work for both SNUPPS plants.
Having attended the GL 96-06 workshop in Dallas, Texas on October 29, however, we have reservations as to whether the expected results can be achieved within the 120-day period.
In the event that we are not able to complete our work prior to January 28, 1997, UE will submit as much of the requested information as available at the time along with a schedule for 40'/3(
