Gentlemen:
j The reference involves NRC concerns wich equipment operability and containment 1
integrity during design-basis accident conditions.
The reference requested Licensees to provide two responses; one within 30 days, and another within 120 days, of the date of the reference.
The reference requested that the 30-day response indicate whether the requested actions will be completed, and whether the requested information will be submitted to the NRC within the requested time period.
This lettsr provides the requested 30-day response for the Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation (WCNOC).
The requested information is provided below.
The 120-day response requested will be submitted by January 28, 1997.
WCNOC is currently evaluating the reference for applicability to Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCGS), and has initiated actions to address the requests made in the reference.
WCNOC currently intends to complete the requested actions, and submit the requested information with our 120-day response by January 28, 1997.
However, WCNOC is pursuing a joint effort with Union Electric to complete the requested actions for both WCGS and the Callaway plant.
In addition, WCNOC intends to participate in the October 29,
- 1996, Generic Letter 96-06 Workshop, to be held in Dallas, Texas, for Licensee, NRC, and NEI personnel. Any work scope or schedule changes that result from either the joint effort or the workshop will be discussed in our 120-day response.
In the event that we are not able to complete the requested actions prior to January 28, 1997, WCNOC will submit as much of the requested information as we

have available at the time, along with a schedule for completion.
In this event, we will also provide in our response any alternative course of action that we intend to take to verify the operability of affected systems and components, including our basis for establishing the acceptability of the proposed alternative course of action and the basis for continued operability of affected systems and, components, as applicable.
