Dear Mr. Hafner:
Thank you for expressing your interest in the Braidwood Station. Your concern over possible fogging associated with the cooling pond and with apparent variations in ground water quantity were noted.
In response to your come'ts I am sending you a chart of the site exclusion zone and a copy of sections of the Final Environmental Statement (OL) and the Final Environmental Statement (CP) which address ground water and fog at the Braidwood site.
In response to your interest in NRC regulations pertaining to residential restrictions in the vicinity of nuclear power plants, we have enclosed copies of sections of the Safety Evaluation Report (SER) which address the exclusion zone.
4 We have not identified any discrepancies in our review of the environmental evaluations which are enclosed. However, based on the concerns expressed by you, we have discussed this matter with Charles MacDonough, Director Air Quality of the Commonwealth Edison Company (CECO) Environmental Assessment Staff. The CECO Environmental Assessment Staff has agreed to specifically examine the potential for ground water perturbations caused by the Braidwood drainage ditch. The CECO Environmental Staff expressed their intent to comunicate their findings to you directly. The CECO staff also intends to discuss with you their evaluation of the cooling pond fog concern. The CECO Evaluation is based on their experience with similar systems at the Dresden and La Salle power stations.
