Subject:

NUCLEAR PROJECT NO. 1 REQUEST FOR CODE CASE N-413 APPROVAL In accordance with Article NCA 1140 of the ASME Section III Code, the Supply System requests approval to apply Code Case N-413 as described below.

On February 14, 1985 the Main Committee of the ASME approved the Code Case designated as N-413 which provides alternate criteria for fillet and partial penetration weld sizes.

Provided that stress limits are not exceeded, fillet and partial penetration weld sizes smaller than the minimum sizes as specified in the ASME Code (Section III, Division 1, Subsection NF, Table NF 3324.5(d)(1)-1 and Appendix XVII, Table XVII-2452.1-1) may be accepted as described in the Code Case.

Approval to apply this Code Case is requested to reconcile previous designs to avoid hardware modifications.

When used, the Code Case will be noted in each analysis package and on the applicable Code Data Report.

Although the WNP-1 Project is in a construction delay mode, the Supply System is currently performing piping and pipe support conformance analysis.

To maximize the cost saving potential, we would appreciate receiving your approval to apply Code Case N-413, as described above, by September 20, 1985.
