SUMMARY

DESCRIPTION RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 96-05,

'" PERIODIC VERIFICATION OF DESIGN BASIS CAPABILITY OF SAFETY-RELATED MOTOR-0PERATED VALVES (TAC NOS. M97028 AND M97029)

Dear.Mr. Cruse:

By letter dated November 15,.1996, you advised that your program which periodically verifies that safety-related motor-operated valves are capable of performing-their safety and current licensing basis functions is currently being revised.

You further stated that the revised program will meet the

-requested actions of Generic Letter (GL) 96-05, and will ensure that changes in required performance resulting from degradation (such as those. caused by

age) can be properly identified and accounted for. Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) currently expects to implement this program by March 17, 1997.

'It is not clear that a 180-day response to GL 96-05 would include the 4

requested summary of your periodic verification program. The staff requests l

that BGE provide a summary description of your GL 96-05 program at 180 days after issuance of the GL unless BGE specifically requests an extended schedule.
