Gentlemen:
This refers to the special inspection conducted by Ms. T. L. Simmons on
September 25 through October 10, 1985, of activities at the DelMonte Corpora-
tion, Plymouth, IN authorized by an NRC General License and to the discussion
of our findings with you and other members of your staff at the conclusion of
the onsite inspection of October 3, 1985.
The special inspection was conducted in response to a gauge containing radio-
active material that was found in a Plymouth, Indiana scrap yard.
The
enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during the
inspection which consisted of an examination of inventory records, observations,
independent measurements, and interviews with personnel.
During this inspection, certain of your activities appeared to be in violation
with NRC requirements. You will be notified by separate correspondence of our
decision regarding enforcement actions based on the findings of this inspection.
No written response is required until you are notified of the proposed enforce-
ment action.
We will gladly discuss any questions you have concerning this inspection.
