Dear Mr. Grass:
We have received your letter dated December 13, 1996, in which you requested renewal of your Quality Assurance (QA) Approval for Radioactive Material Packages No. 0731. Revision No. 1.
Please note that, with your request, your QA Program Approval is under timely renewal and you may continue your transportation activities in accordance with your current GA program.
At this time, however, for Part 34 licensees, we are not issuing Certificates i
of Approval for renewal of OA Programs as in the past because the applicable regulations are going to change in the near future.
Specifically.10 CFR Part
- 34. " Licenses for Radiography and Radiation Safety Requirements for Radiogra) hic Operations. ' has been revised and will be effective in early 1997.
T1e revised 10 CFR Part 34 will include the requirements for QA activities such as procurement, use, maintenance, and repair of Type B packages (i.e.
radiography cameras or overpacks) designed to transport sealed sources used for radiograohy.
The need to apply se)arately for an NRC OA rogram approval will no longer be required after t1e revised 10 CFR Part 34 as been implemented.
There is no need for you to res)ond to this letter.
NRC will contact you when i
the revised 10 CFR Part 34 has Jeen issued.
