August 12, 1985 EN 85-54 0FFICE OF INSPECTION AND ENFORCEMENT NOTIFICATION OF SIGNIFICANT ENFORCEMENT ACTION Licensee: GPU Nuclear Corporation Three Mile Island, Unit 2 Docket No. 50-320
Subject:
PROPOSED IMPOSITION OF CIVIL PENALTY - $64,000 This is to inform the Comission that a Notice of Violation and Proposed Imposition of Civil Penalty in the amount of Sixty-four Thousand Dollars will be issued on August 12, 1985 to GPU Nuclear Corporation. This action is based on a violation involving acts cf discrimination against a contractor employee for raising safety concerns associated with the TMI-2 polar crane refurbishment in 1983.
It should be noted that the licensee has not been specifically informed of the enforcement action. The Director, Office of Inspection and Enforcement has been authorized by the Commission o sign this action. The schedule of issuance and notification is:
Mailing of Notice August 12, 1985 Telephone Notification of Licensee August 12, 1985 A news release has been prepared and will be issued about the time the licensee receives the Notice. The State of Pennsylvania will be notified.
The licensee has thirty days from the date of the Notice in which to respond.
Following NRC evaluation of the response, the civil penalty may be remitted, mitigated, or imposed by Order.
