Purpose:
To discuss dry cask spent fuel storage.
Discussion:
Requirements for spent fuel storage under 10 CFR Part 72 and their derivations were discussed. Mitsubishi Corporation is interested in the CASTOR V/21 cask. Mitsubishi Corporation is a trading company which is a consultant to Mitsubishi Metals Corporation. Mitsubishi Metals Corporation apparently has rights to sell to utilities in Japan the CASTOR V cask for pressurized water reactor (PWR) spent fuel storage. Mitsubishi Corporation apparently has similar rights for boiling water reactor (BWR) spent fuel storage. No topical report has been submitted to the NRC for a CASTOR V to store BWR spent fuel, only submittal of a design for PWR spent fuel storage has been submitted.
