Nelson Grace SPR 85-009 Page Two July 8, 1985 EVENT DESCRIPTION On June 9, 1985 upon securing Diesel Generator (DG) "A" following a surveillance test, a fuel oil leak was observed on the fue l supply line. Investigation id en t i f ied that the leak was due to a crack in the threads of a two inch connector on the fuel supply line to one bank of cylinders.

ACTION TAKEN In accordance with the criteria set forth in Regulatory Guid e 1.108, " Periodic Testing of Diesel Generators," this event was classified as a va lid test f ailu r e and the unit was declared inoperable. A new connector was installed, the unit was satisfactorily tested and declared o pe r ab le at 1835 hours0.0212 days
0.51 hours
0.00303 weeks
6.982175e-4 months
, June 10, 1985. Total time inoperable was twenty-four (24) hours.

At the present time, the Licensee is testing the diesel generators every 14 days on a staggered test basis. As of July 1, 1985, s i x t y- f iv e (65) va lid su c ce s s fu l tests are required to decrease the test frequency to once every thirty-one (31) days.
