SUBJECT:

UMTRAP SITE REFERENCES An intensive search was conducted to compile an annotated bibliography of references pertinent to geologic reviews of L'MTRAP documents. This search included many hours spent at the libraries of the USGS and the University of Maryland, personnel contacts with persons affiliated with state geological surveys and other State agencies, and contacts made with other federal agencies.

A quantitative analysis of the data available for different sites indicates that there is a considerable amount of variability in terms of ouantity and type of information available. For example, there is significant information on the Ambrosia Lake, NM site. This information describes such things as Quaternary and Pliocene faulting, subsurface water conditions and lithologic logs. By contrast only, three references were available for the Maybell, Co site, and two of the references were about 60 years old.

The available geologic data base appears to be minimal for approvimately 75% of the sites researched.

The overall lack of adequate geologic information for most of the UMTRAP sites emphasizes the need for site specific geologic studies to meet the objectives nf the EPA standards.
