Dear Mr. Paggen:
This responds to your letter of November 26, 1996 which requested information regarding the status of export license applications XR162, XR163 and XSNM02642.
Your inquiry was forwarded to the Department of State on December 11 and their response was received on December 30.
As you know, the applications were reviewed initially in 1991 and again in 1995 when ABB applied for amendments to the applications. After receipt of your updated information in November, the Department of Energy followed up the assurance letter request, and the Department of State advised that the Executive Branch agencies are prepared to recommend approval of the exports subject to receipt of appropriate letters of assurance from the Republic of Korea confirming that the intended transfers will be subject to the terms and conditions of the U.S.-ROK Agreement for Cooperation.
If you have any additional questions regarding the pending applications, please call me or eetty Wright at (301) 415-2344.
Sincerely, D Siped by Ronald D. Haitoer Ronald D. Hauber, Director Division of Nonproliferation, Export and Multilateral Relations Office of International Programs bec:
