70-1100/851017 Date: October 17, 1985 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNS-I-85-14 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance. The information is as initially received without veri-fication or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region I staff on this date.

INVENTORY DIFFERENCE IN EXCESS OF LIMIT OF ERROR At approximately 3:00 p.m. on October 17, 1985, the licensee notified Region I that reconciliation of the low enriched uranium inventory for the physical inventory period ending September,1985 indicated that the inventory difference (ID) was in excess of the limit of error for the inventory difference and the regulatory allowance for U-235.
The licensee is continuing the reconciliation and will recalculate the LEID in an attempt to identify any mathematical error in the calculation.
Region I has notified the NRC operations center and will continue to follow the licensee's actions. The State of Connecticut is being informed.
