Dear Mr. Demerer:
Thank you for your November 26 and December 4, 1996, letters in response to our November 4,1996, Notice of Violation (NOV) and Notice of Nonconformance (NON).
In your November 26, 1996, letter, you indicated that AMETEK has replaced its previous quality control procedure with Quality Control Procedure QPGA-01, " General Administrative - (10CFR21)
Notification Procedure," to require evaluation of deviations from safety-related purchase order requirements to determine if they could become defects, and provided us a copy of the new QPGA-01.
In your December 4,1996, letter, you indicated that AMETEK plans to revise its Quality Assurance (QA) Manual, "AMETEK, Inc., Panalarm Division Quality Assurance Manual," Document 900181, Revision 10, and associated quality control (QC) documents to (1) require quality assurance or quality control approval of all test results, (2) clarify the organizational status and responsibilities of QA and QC, and (3) require QA/QC to witness acceptance test, J
calibration, and solder quality of each safety-related module.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room (PDR).
