WASHINGTON, D. C. 20555 s
a 49.....,o JUN 27 BBS Mr. Roland Stiles Chairman of the Board of Health and Chairman of the Selectman Board of Health IN RESPONSE REFER Hawley, MA 01339 TO F01A-85-410
Dear Mr. Stiles:
This is in response to your letter dated May 31, 1985, in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (F0IA), copies of all records in the Nuclear Regulatory Comission's (NRC) possession pertaining to the NRC's relationship to the proposed installation of microwave towers in the town of Hawley. You also requested that the NRC disclose to you all information in its possession regarding health effects on humans and animals from microwave emissions.
The NRC completed the search and did not locate any records subject to your request.
For your information, during the search for documents which may be subject to your request a member of the NRC staff contacted the Wing Commander at Westover Air Force Base (AFB), Massachusetts, to determine what information was used by Captain Philip Weber in citing the NRC as a user of the system.
General " Jack" Furgeson responded that no news release from Westover AFB contained aiy mention of the NRC.
The subject of health effects on humans and animals from microwave emissions does not fall within the purview of the NRC's responsibilities, and, as noted above, the staff located no information on this subject in NRC's files.
Sincerely, l
A' Q
