PRESERVICE INSPECTION PROGRAM RELIEF REQUESTS HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION DOCKET NO. 50-354 Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) hereby responds to the letter from Mr. Walter R.

Butler (Nuclear Regulatory Commission - NRC) to Mr.

R.L.

Mittl (PSE&G) dated October 2, 1985 regarding the Hope Creek Generating Station (HCGS) Pre-service Inspection (PSI) Program.

In the referenced letter a request was made for all PSI relief requests, with the appropriate technical justifications, from any impractical ASME code requirements in order to resolve Safety Evaluation Report (SER) Open Item 3, identified as " Confirmatory" in SER Supplement 3.

PSE&G is currently working on identifying and properly justifying all impractical ASME code requirements discovered while conducting the PSI Program.

The results of this effort will be available November 15, 1985 and forwarded

to the staff at that ti.me.
