NRC GIAIRMAN, WORKING GROUP MEETING ON FORMATION OF INTERNATIONAL REGULATORY COUNCIL i
NRC Chairman Shirley Ann Jackson and officials from-six other countries will meet today through Friday at NRC headquarters to discuss the creation of an international nuclear regulatory council.
In various international forums over the past year, Chairman Jackson has discussed the possibility of forming such a group through which senior nuclear regulators of various nations could meet regularly to share their experience and coordinate policy approaches to nuclear safety.
Participating in this week's working group discussions are these officials:
CANADA - Dr. Agnes Bishop, President and Chief Executive Officer, Atomic Energy Control Board of Canada.

FRANCE - Andre-Claude Lacoste, Director, Directorate'for the Safety of Nuclear Installations.
GERMANY - G. Hennenhofer, Director General for Nuclear Safety, Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety.
JAPAN - Yasumasa Togo, Chairman, Nuclear Safety Commission; and Tomihiro Taniguchi, Deputy Director General, Ministry of International Trade and Industry.
SPAIN - Dr. Juan Manucl Kindelan, President, Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear.
UNITED KINGDOM - Dr. Sam A. Harbison, Director, HM Chief Inspector of Nuclear Installations, Health and Safety Executive, Nuclear Safety Directorate.
A statement will be issued Friday at the conclusion of the meeting.
