SUBJECT: FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTION ASSISTANCE (TASK INTERFACE

AGREEMENT (TIA)83-122)

In accordance with the TIA dated December 13, 1983, we are forwarding the

enclosed Safety Evaluation (SE). That SE addresses the resolution of In-

spection Findings at Maine Yankee.

Between October 22-26, 1984, we provided assistance in conducting an Appendix R

inspection at Maine Yankee. On January 17, 1985, Inspection Report No. 50-309/84-11

was issued pertaining to that inspection. The following items were left

unresolved pending NRR evaluation:

Item 84-15-03), Unsealed openings in fire barriers

Item 84-15-06), Structural Improvements to fire doors

Item 84-11-04), Non-fire-related seismic gap

Item (84-11-07),011 Collection System for Reactor Coolant Pumps.

By letters dated March 20, 1985 and May 15, 1985, the licensee submitted

additional information, including commitments to improve the level of fire

safety in certain areas and to install an oil collection system for the RCPs.

The enclosed SE addresses those submittals. Therefore, the unresolved items

mentioned'above should be considered closed, pending Region I confirmation.
