- Mallin, DeFrancisco, Smalley, Morth, Keslar, Berger, Cody A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE MERGER OF CENTERIOR ENERGY CORPORATION AND OHIO EDISON UNDER A NEW HOLDING COMPANY CALLED FIRSTENERGY.
WHEREAS, Centerior is a valued corporate citizen, employer and taxpayer in the City of Bedford Heights; and WHEREAS, the merger of Centerior Energy Corporation and Ohio Edison would create a $5 billion, Fortune 300 company; and WHEREAS, this new company would become the nation's lith largest investor-owned electric system; Ohio's largest single taxpayer, with $516 million in annual payments; and one of the state top 20 employers; and WHEREAS, the merger would keep jobs in Ohio; create a larger enterprise with more resources - offering customers better electric service and a wider array of energy-related products; and

WHEREAS, the combination of the contiguous service areas will j
further assist community and state economic development efforts in attracting jobs over a wider regic n of Ohio; and i
WHEREAS, a rate reduction plan has been filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio which would greatly he.aefit Centerior customers with rate reductions commencing afts:. the merger is approved.
NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Resolved by the Council of the City of Bedford Heights, State of Ohio, that:
Section-1:
The Mayor and Council of the City of Bedford Heights hereby urge state and federal regulators to quickly approve the FirstEnergy merger so that Centerior Energy customers and employees can begin to enjoy the benefits as soon as possible.
Section 2:
The Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed to forward a signed copy of this Resolution to Governor George V. Voinovich, Ohio Consumers' Counsel Robert S.
Tongren, members of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, members of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, and the appropriate members of the Ohio House and Senate.
